Sometimes a girl just feels the need for some comfort food. Sweet comfort food. While it might be disastrous for my waist line to keep chocolate chips in the house, I’m pretty sure it helps my mental state.

After a few times making these cookies, I think I finally settled upon the perfect balance of wheat flour and white flour to make a sturdy, fat cookie that is the right amount of melt-in-your-mouth. The dough comes out nice and stiff, so you can easily grab a palmful of it, plunk it on the cookie sheet, and have 12 of these fellas in no time.

Chocolate Chip Cookies
Makes 12 cookies

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups wheat flour
1/2 cup all purpose flour
8 oz. semisweet chocolate chips

1. Cream the butter with the sugars until fluffy.
2. Beat in the egg and the vanilla extract
3. Combine the dry ingredients and beat into the butter mixture.
4. Stir in the chocolate chips.
5. Drop by large spoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet.
6. Bake at 375 degrees for 14 – 16 minutes.
